The original Barwonleigh station tooks its name by virtue of being sited at the junction of the Barwon and Leigh Rivers. The original homestead consisted of 4 bluestone rooms constructed in about 1851 and this was later extended to 15 rooms including a ballroom, an addition of 1919. The house was destroyed by fire on March 1st, 1965. A reconstruction tookplace in 1966 and adhered as faithfully as possible to the original design and features.Original features which did survive
